A decade of Transatlantic growth

10 years ago, I was fortunate to have worked with an amazing group of talented individuals when the construction of the fastest Transatlantic cable to date was launched from our landing station in Halifax Nova Scotia connecting to Brean England, which included a branch to Cork Ireland. At that time, it was the first Transatlantic SubSea cable system built in 12 years, designed with the capacity to carry 52TBps of data along its fiber optic channels.

Fast forward to 2021, after a global pandemic, several acquisitions, and a recent sale of these infrastructure and data center assets, I am delighted to be part of this newly formed company, Exa Infrastructure, which not only continues to have the fastest route from New York to London at sub 59 milliseconds amongst thousands of others, but now has a dedicated focus on growth and expansion.

From humble beginnings over a decade ago, with only a handful of PoPs (points of presence), what has now become Exa Infrastructure has undergone quite the transformation, now with over 500 PoPs on 6 continents, covering 31 countries. Our focus and determination for growth is reflected in our name, Exa which was shaped from the word Exabyte, a unit of measure equal to one quintillion (that is a lot of data!).

Growing the network for high speed bandwidth

As the Product owner for wavelengths, it is exciting to work toward growth of this potential magnitude, confident in our team and our ability to meet the growing demand for high speed bandwidth. The real reward is being able to continually contribute to and witness successful growth of our network, while simultaneously building and maintaining a stellar list of loyal and satisfied customers around the globe. EXA may be a new name and a new logo, but it has passed the test of time as a well known industry leading provider.
